About Terry

Terry Brown - B. Comm (Hons), a proud member of Peguis First Nation, is the Cofounder & CEO of Okimaw Community and HR Solutions, a member of the EDIP Sovereign Wealth Solutions Group of Companies. His focus is on providing Indigenous communities with the tools to foster economic reconciliation and grow their sovereign wealth.

With extensive experience working with First Nation, Métis, Inuit, and Native American communities, Terry is a respected Indigenous businessperson. His expertise lies in capacity building and facilitating connections between mainstream and Indigenous businesses. Terry's dynamic understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing companies operating in traditional Indigenous territories and Indigenous communities entering mainstream markets drives his passion for business development.

In a remarkable recognition of his contributions to Indigenous economic development, Terry Brown, Co-Founder of Okimaw Community and HR Solutions, was honored with the RBC Rising Star Award at the 2023 Indigenous Entrepreneur Awards on November 9, 2023. This prestigious award, part of the Pow Wow Pitch, North America’s leading pitch competition for Indigenous entrepreneurs, acknowledges Terry’s significant impact in fostering economic sovereignty within Indigenous communities. Under Terry's visionary leadership, Okimaw has grown exponentially since 2019, now serving over 100 Indigenous communities and contributing to over half a billion dollars in sales. His approach skillfully blends traditional values with innovative economic strategies, making him a deserving recipient of this accolade. Terry expressed his deep appreciation for the support of the Pow Wow Pitch organizers, sponsors, and his family, attributing his success to the unwavering dedication of his team at Okimaw and his motivation to build a brighter future for upcoming generations.

Terry Brown and his Business Partner, Miranda Kennedy, have been nominated for the CanadianSME Small Business Awards taking place in April 2024. They are a nominee for the Indigenous Entrepreneur of the Year Award for 2023. Read more about the award below.

This award recognizes the excellence, resilience, innovation of Indigenous businesses while contributing long-term success for these innovative leaders who have found their own voice within an ever-changing world. The judges are looking for a driven entrepreneur who has shown continuous growth and sustainability in their business.
